Sync or Swing

An improvisation between two drum machines, one trying to synchronize with the other. Ikue Mori's machine lays down the steady beat, and Chris Brown tunes his rhythm software to a tempo that nearly, but not perfectly, matches it. As the two systems drift apart, Brown's machine interprets the discrepancy as "swing," and tries to match it by imparting the same feel to its performance. One machine chases the other, sometimes in phase and sometimes out, but always interpreting the difference as worthy of notice.
